U10s Boys County Age Group - Season Review & Award Winners
6 October 2021
The season started in style for the U10s Boys side with a dominant 82 run victory over Warwickshire as the U10s scored 245 for 8 off 40 overs. Jonty Grindal and Arjun Chib featured in an opening stand of 99 setting the tone for the rest of the season. Warwickshire were then dismissed for 163 as all 10 bowlers were used to great effect.
The U10s went on to play Warwickshire on 3 further occasions, twice being at the Malvern Festival which also proved successful for the side. The festival was a brilliant success, with 4 straight victories including a hat trick taken by Charlie Snow!
The success of the season continued, with two comprehensive T20 victories over Somerset. In the first T20, Jonty Grindal and Charlie Snow were in the action again hitting half centuries and scoring 128 in a mammoth partnership whilst the bowlers came together well as a group to reduce our local rivals to 33 for 7, and then 78 all out.
In the second T20, the strength of our side really shone as the batting line up was reversed as Gloucestershire managed to score 130 for 3 and then bowl out Somerset for 96.
A special mention must go to Jacob Bennett for his superb all-round effort in the season, he scored 209 runs at an average of 33.43 and took 13 wickets at an average of 6.38.
U10s Coach Eric Woodmason said all the players involved should be proud of their performances as a team as well as individuals. He added that our older pathway coaches have got some fantastic cricketers to work with in future years!
Performance of the Year
This award went to a player who smashed a brilliant 105 from only 82 deliveries against Wiltshire. The innings included 15 boundaries as he took Gloucestershire to 196 for 4 in 30 overs. Unfortunately, the heavens opened and play was abandoned in what, surely, would have taken Gloucestershire to victory. The U10s Boys Performance of the Year was awarded to Charlie Snow.
Player of the Year
In total this season, this player scored 434 runs, with an average of 62. He also took 10 catches and 2 run-outs. Our U10s Boys Player of the Year was awarded to Jonty Grindal.
