Gloucestershire U15's County Age Group vs Devon (2 Day Friendly)

Our U15s County Age Group side got the first taste of the longer form of the game this season, with a 2-day match taking place at Great Rissington CC. Our opponents Devon won the toss and elected to bat first, with both sides looking to impress and show their temperament.

Captain Harry Southgate for Devon batted well at the top of the order, hitting a well made half century (59 of 99). However, Gloucestershire managed to rattle through Devon’s middle order with the away side collapsing to 86 for 7. Late order batsman Surya Suresh (33) and George Topley (23) showed some rear guard action for Devon however Gloucestershire bowlers Luke Hope (4 for 18) and Lysander Tarrant (3 for 33) made sure to keep their total down, bowling superbly in tandem as Devon were dismissed for 145.

In Gloucestershire 1st innings reply, Devon took full control as all of their bowlers chipped in with wickets and bowled extremely economically. Gloucestershire unfortunately limped their way to 81 for 8 and declaring at 50 overs to give both sides a chance of a result. Luke Hope again starring and making a valuable 30 off 108 balls.

Devon fought back again with the bat and thanks again to skipper Southgate with his 2nd half century of the match and nearing a century as he was dismissed for a beautifully compiled 89. Gloucestershire struggled to take wickets however bowled consistently well to restrict scoring as Devon reach 165 for 5 before declaring leaving Gloucestershire 53 overs to either chase the target or shut up shop.

Freddie Sharp, took on intent for a result as he hit 80 runs off 123 balls to give the home side a chance at victory. Skipper Max Dunne also contributed with a solid 40 runs in the middle order however with the overs reducing and Devon taking a number of wickets in quick succession thanks to bowler Ben Kay (4 for 51) – the match was eventually drawn as Gloucestershire 204 for 8 in 53 overs.

A brilliant experience for both sides and we would like to thank Devon for travelling to us for the fixture along with Great Rissington CC for hosting us. Special to our umpires and scorers who were fantastic throughout.
