Zafar Gohar leaves Gloucestershire

3 October 2024

Gloucestershire Cricket can today confirm that Zafar Gohar has left the Club following the conclusion of his contract.

After a season hampered by a groin injury, the Club are unable to offer extended terms for Zafar to stay at the Seat Unique Stadium as an overseas player.

Having first signed for Gloucestershire on a short-term deal towards the end of the 2021 season, Zafar has been a permanent and popular member of the squad amongst players and supporters alike.

Zafar was prolific with the ball in the County Championship, taking 118 wickets and securing best figures of 6 for 43 against Glamorgan in 2021. He was also a reliable middle-order batter, notching up over 1,000 runs and scoring 8 half-centuries for the Club.

On Zafar’s departure, Mark Alleyne, Head Coach said:

‘’Zafar has had many lovely moments with Glos, particularly when you plug him in for one of his marathon spells.

“With a crafty ability to get wickets anytime of the year, he became an obdurate staple of our bowling attack with good success.

‘’Whilst his batting played second fiddle to his bowling, there were many times where the opposition  met his fierce resistance and ability to create good partnerships in the middle order.

‘’A truly multi-skilled and all format player; he was so well received by his teammates and staff alike and will be missed from the Glorious Glosters.’’

Reflecting on his time with Gloucestershire, Zafar Gohar said:

‘’It was my dream to play county cricket and I am so grateful Gloucestershire provided that opportunity to me. I have loved every minute with the club and I would like to thank everyone involved for giving me that opportunity.

"This club will have a special place in my heart forever and I would also like to thank all the supporters too."

Everyone at Gloucestershire Cricket wishes Zafar every success in his future cricketing endeavours.
