Young Player of the Season – James Bracey

4 November 2020

Gloucestershire star wicketkeeper/batsman James Bracey has been named as the Club’s 2020 Young Player of the Season for the second year in succession.

Bracey had a different start to the 2020 season compared to his Club teammates. Bracey was called up to the England back-to-training group in May.

Bracey took part in a three-day practice match ahead of England’s first Test against West Indies in July. In this practice match, Bracey showcased his talents with the bat by scoring 85 runs for team Buttler on the first day.

After his impressive performance, Bracey was selected in the England Test side. He would remain in the England bubble with Gloucestershire Head Coach Richard Dawson for the West Indies encounter.

James was integral to the Gloucestershire side that would go on to make it to T20 Finals Day for the first time since 2007.

He would go on to make one catch in the competition along with an impressive five stumpings which was the second highest of any wicketkeeper in the competition.

Coming in at number five in the Blast, Bracey averaged 17.85, with a top score of 39* coming against Worcestershire Rapids in the 30-run victory at the Bristol County Ground.

The Young Player of the Season Award is given out to players 23-years-old or below.
