Yorkshire’s Josh Shaw signs for Gloucestershire on loan

Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s Josh Shaw has agreed to join Gloucestershire on a season long loan.

The 20-year-old right-arm seamer, who came through the Academy system at Headingley, made his senior debut in the NatWest T20 Blast competition last summer where he played two matches.

Shaw, whose father Chris played 61 First-class matches for Yorkshire in the 1980s, will play in all three formats for Gloucestershire and will be looking to cement his place in Richard Dawson’s senior team.

“This is a great opportunity for me to continue my development as a professional cricketer,” said Shaw, who represented England under 19s two years ago.

“I’m looking forward to, once again, working with Richard Dawson who coached me at Yorkshire a couple of years ago before his move back to Gloucestershire.”

Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon added “Josh needs to be playing against quality opposition across all three formats. Gloucestershire are a progressive club and Richard Dawson is turning them into a strong unit. They showed their prowess last season by winning the Royal London One-Day Cup Final. It can only be a good thing that Josh will be playing his cricket at this level.”

Gloucestershire Head Coach, Richard Dawson said, “It’s great having Josh for a season long loan from Yorkshire. He’s a bowler of great potential and will add competition to our squad whilst also giving him an opportunity to develop his game in all formats.

“Yorkshire and Martyn Moxon have been brilliant in allowing him to join up with us so early in the year giving him an opportunity to get settled with the squad before the season.”

Gloucestershire CEO, Will Brown said, “Having Josh join Gloucestershire for the 2016 season represents another great signing for the team and we look forward to welcoming him to the Club. Special thanks should also go to Gloucestershire’s life members, many of whom contributed to a special member’s fund, ring-fenced for squad use, which has allowed us to sign Josh for the season.”
