Yorkshire v Gloucestershire | Match Preview
25 September 2022
Gloucestershire travel to Yorkshire for the final match of the County Championship Division One season hoping to build on their impressive three-wicket win over Warwickshire last week.
The Seat Unique Stadium witnessed Gloucestershire’s first top-flight win in 15 years on Thursday, led by inspired performances by 22-year-old Tom Price and overseas spinner Zafar Gohar. The former claimed 10 wickets in the match, 8-27 in the second innings, in what will be remembered as one of the most memorable bowling performances in Bristol in the recent years.
A second win on the bounce for Dale Benkenstein’s side wouldn’t be enough to save them from the drop, but would mean ending the season on a high as attentions turn to bouncing straight back up from Division Two next season.
Yorkshire, meanwhile, while in seventh place on 135 points, are not safe from relegation and would need to beat Gloucestershire to confirm their survival without the need to rely on results elsewhere. The Leeds-based side fell to a 10 wicket defeat to Surrey in London last week and have only won one match all season. That sole victory came against Gloucestershire in April, when the visitors ran out with a six-wicket winning margin.
James Bracey scored a magnificent 177 in that match v Yorkshire and the 25-year-old will be looking to put in another similarly impressive performance as he looks to re-discover his form with the bat.
