Work begins on installation of floodlights at Bristol
22 January 2016
The diggers, cranes and workmen have moved into the Bristol County Ground as work to install 6 permanent floodlights has begun.
Having been granted planning permission in 2015, work to install the floodlights is now in full swing and will be completed by the start of the 2016 season.
Following development in recent years at the Bristol County Ground, such as the new Mound Stand and new Bristol Pavilion, the floodlights are another step towards creating one of the finest Sports grounds in the South West that the region can be proud of, especially Gloucestershire Cricket members, supporters and playing staff.
The immediate benefit of the floodlights will be noticed on Friday 20 May when Gloucestershire host Sussex in our first home NatWest T20 Blast match of the season. Friday night matches will also begin at the later time of 6.30pm, compared to a 5.30pm start time in 2015.
Feedback received from members and supporters suggested the 5.30pm start was a barrier for some to attend matches, so we are delighted that floodlit matches will give Gloucestershire supporters added time to get to the match and enjoy a friday with us at the Bristol County Ground for an entertaining evening of T20 cricket.
Chief Executive Will Brown said “The last week has been a really exciting time for us here at the Club. After months of planning it’s great to see holes being dug and the building work really starting. For many of us the installation of floodlights represents so much more than just a later start to matches, they represent the fantastic future that lies ahead for Gloucestershire Cricket and a future we can’t wait to move into.”
