Will's Passion For New Job

6 July 2013

Will Brown has been talking of a passion for what he describes as his dream job as Gloucestershire Chief Executive.

The 37-year-old succeeds Tom Richardson at the beginning of September and is already rubbing his hands at the prospect of playing a leading role in the club’s future.

In the first part of an interview series, Will told this website: “I have been a Gloucestershire fan all my life and a lot of the work I have done up to now has really been leading up to this appointment.

“The only places I would really want to do this job are here at the County Ground or at Bath Rugby. I have deliberately set out to build a career in the business side of sport.

“I love this club. I first came here when I was six or seven years old and have continued coming over the years, although not always as often as I would have liked.

“I am passionate about Gloucestershire and what can be achieved here. I believe I am joining the club at a phenomenal stage in its development.”

With the new pavilion about to be completed at Nevil Road, which will enable Gloucestershire to hugely increase non-matchday revenue as well as providing a superb new facility for spectators, Will admits a major step forward has already been taken.

“It’s almost as if I am cheating, coming in with a lot of other people having put all the work in,” he said.

“There are some great opportunities commercially with the new development and I have a track record delivering revenue, so hopefully I can do what is right and help take the club further forward.

“I want to take my time and listen and learn from the staff already here. But the aim is to make Gloucestershire successful on and off the pitch.”

Will, whose previous employers include the Lawn Tennis Association, Cricinfo and Betfair, is seen by the club as the right man to make the most of their potential new revenue streams.

“A lot of my career has been on the commercial side and I have worked with legal teams and finance teams, so I have an understanding of how business works on a general management level,” he said.

“By generating more revenue we can invest more in the playing squad, our facilities and other staff, while putting some away for a rainy day.

“I am big on team and I am passionate about what sport can achieve. From the little I have spoken to the staff already, I believe that passion is here already and will help us go forward.”
