Will Under Treatment As Others Look To Return

9 May 2013

Will Gidman was unable to bowl as Hampshire extended their first innings total to 264-9 on a rain-shortened second day of the LV=County Championship match at Bristol.

The all-rounder's ankle injury, sustained on the opening day, is still being assessed, but he is not expected to bowl again in the match.

Thankfully there is better news of Gloucestershire's other injured seamers, Ian Saxelby, Liam Norwell, James Fuller and Paul Muchall, who are all nearing recovery.

Skipper Michael Klinger told this website: "Paul is involved in the current second XI game, while James has a chance of being fit for Sunday's YB40 game against Middlesex.

"We hope that Ian and Liam may be able to feature in the three-day game against Cambridge MCCU next week and it's nice to report that all four have made significant progress."

Hampshire skipper Jimmy Adams was unbeaten on 129 when rain ended the second day's play at the lunch interval.

Danny Briggs contributed 54 to a stand of 128 with his captain, which was a Hampshire record for the ninth wicket against Gloucestershire.

Alex Gidman took the only wicket of the day, which Hampshire began on 165-8. He had Briggs caught at mid-wicket by Chris Dent with the total on 225.

Michael Klinger added: "At the start of the game we would have settled for having Hampshire 264-9, but as they were 97-8 it's a bit disappointing.

"It's a good batting wicket and, without Will, we have not been able to knock over their tail."
