Will Takes Four As Gloucestershire Win

14 June 2013

Will Gidman finished with 4-46 as Gloucestershire claimed an unlikely LV=County Championship victory inside three days against Hampshire at Southampton.

Following the first day washout both teams were keen to set up a decisive result and after Gloucestershire had extended their first innings total to 410-9 declared an agreement was made to contrive a finish.

Hampshire forfeited their first innings and Gloucestershire did the same with their second innings, leaving the hosts to make 411 to win on the remainder of day three and the whole of day four.

They never looked like achieving that and were bowled out for 212 to give Gloucestershire victory by 198 runs.

Afterwards delighted skipper Michael Klinger told this website: "It may have been a contrived finish, but we out-batted and out-bowled Hampshire so I couldn't be more delighted with the team.

"I thought the target was fair because Hampshire had five and a half sessions to get the runs so they were not under any scoreboard pressure.

"The good thing for us was that it was a lot of runs to get and we bowled so well as a unit. The win puts us in a challenging position in the table and all credit to Hampshire for being positive in trying to force a win for themselves."

Gloucestershire took 21 points from the game to Hampshire's three and move up to third in the Division Two table.
