Will Gidman Hits Another Hundred

15 July 2014

Will Gidman completed his second century in successive LV=County Championship innings as Gloucestershire were bowled out for 356 on the second day of the match with Derbyshire at Cheltenham.

The all-rounder followed up his 119 against Hampshire at Southampton by being last man out for 125, having helped the hosts add 52 to their overnight first innings total of 304-6.

Will faced 216 balls and hit 19 boundaries before falling just 18 short of his career-best score of 143, made against Leicestershire at the Bristol County Ground last summer.

By the close of day two at the College Ground, Derbyshire had fought back strongly, posting 216-2. Skipper Wayne Madsen contributed an unbeaten 79  and opener Ben Slater 70.

Will Gidman claimed the wicket of Billy Godleman, while Hamish Marshall broke a second wicket stand of 81 between Slater and Madsen by having Slater caught behind by Adam Rouse.

But from then on Madsen and Shivnarine Chanderpaul took control, adding 105 in an unbroken third-wicket stand, which saw Chanderpaul follow his captain to a half-century. He was 50 not out at stumps.

Will Gidman told this website: “I’ve struck a bit of form with the bat and I’m feeling confident at the crease. It was difficult facing the second new ball, but other than that I went in at a good time on a decent pitch and had a bit of luck.

“We’re disappointed with how we have bowled this afternoon because the new ball was doing a bit and there were signs of turn. Now two dangerous players are well set.

"It's important that we do something about that in the morning. A couple of quick wickets will get us right back in it again so we need to turn up in positive mood and bowl well."
