Will Closes In On 50-Wicket Landmark

19 September 2013

Will Gidman took his tally of first class wickets for the season to 49 by claiming 5-61 before Lancashire declared their first innings total at 310-8 on another rain-interrupted day of the LV=County Championship match at Bristol.

The prolific all-rounder clean bowled Tom Smith, who failed to add to his score of 88, with the fifth ball of the day to improve on overnight figures of 4-58.

That was Will’s 44th Championship wicket of the summer. He also took five in the first class fixture against Australia A at Bristol.

Only eight overs were bowled before first bad light and then rain interrupted play. The game restarted at 4.30pm at which point the visitors declared.

Lancashire claimed a third batting point, while Gloucestershire had to settle for two bowling points.

In the 25 overs remaining in the day the hosts made 90-3, losing skipper Michael Klinger for 13 off the eighth ball of the innings, Gareth Roderick for 12 and Chris Dent for 19.
