Will And Jack Face Lay-Offs After Draw

11 May 2013

Will Gidman (pictured) and Jack Taylor will be given ten-day rest periods after picking up injuries on the final day of the drawn LV=County Championship match with Hampshire at Bristol.

Gidman aggravated his ankle problem when sending down the second delivery of Hampshire's second innings, having not been expected to bowl, while Taylor hurt a shoulder in the warm-up before play started.

With Hamish Marshall (stomach bug) and Cameron Herring (conjunctivitis) also absent, Gloucestershire had four substitutes, Gareth Roderick, Graeme McCarter, Paul Muchall and James Fuller fieldiing as Hampshire made 120-4 in their second innings before the players shook hands at 5.30pm.

Gloucestershire had claimed maximum batting points by extending their first innings to 400-4 before Michael Klinger declared, having made 163 himself. Alex Gidman made 69.

But too many overs had been lost to the weather on the first three days for the home side to force a win, particularly with a depleted bowling attack. Gloucestershire took 11 points from the game to Hampshire's six.

Afterwards Michael Klinger told this website: "It's a bit like a hospital ward in our dressing room. Will Gidman was moving alright today and thought he would be okay to bowl, but felt his ankle again when he brought his foot down on the bowling crease.

"He will have a ten-day break now, as will Jack Taylor, who did something to a shoulder in the warm-up. Fortunately we do not have a Championship game in the coming week and they won't feature against Cambridge MCCU.

"Hamish has gone home to get a good night's rest and hopefully will be okay for the YB40 game against Middlesex tomorrow, while Cameron can't see out of one eye at the moment so we will have to monitor him.

"I thought it was a tremendous effort by the players to have the better of a game against a tough team in Hampshire and we can take a lot from it."
