Will And Dan Set Up Exciting Last Day

13 September 2012

Will Gidman top scored with 72 as Gloucestershire battled hard for supremecy on the third day of the LV=County Championship match with Leicestershire at Grace Road.

The visitors closed on 254-9 in their second innings, leading by 193 on a pitch that is giving considerable assistance to the spinners. Dan Housego contributed 62 and shared a sixth-wicket stand of 77 with Will.

Earlier Leicestershire had been bowled out for 295 in their first innings, James Fuller finishing with 4-51 and Liam Norwell 3-62.

The match looks intriguingly poised going into the final day and at stumps skipper Alex Gidman told this website: "We have definitely put ourselves in with a chance.

"The ball is turning a lot and, without wanting to put pressure on a young player, there should be a big opportunity for Jack Taylor tomorrow,

"We have not played our best cricket, but there was an awesome partnership between Will and Dan today, which was among our best of the season.

"They used contrasting styles. Will swept a lot and took the attack to Leicestershire, while Dan stayed in his bubble and worked the ball around.

"We would have liked a couple more wickets in hand, but if we can extend the lead beyond 200 tomorrow I believe we can put Leicestershire under pressure."
