Western Storm finish year with more awards

16 October 2017

Western Storm brought their superbly successful year to a close recently by picking up a number of prizes at the Gloucestershire Cricket and Somerset Cricket end of season awards dinners.

The Storm won the 2017 Kia Super League after defeating Southern Vipers in a dramatic final at the 1st Central County Ground, Hove, in September but the trophies just keep coming.

As part of the both Awards Dinners, Head Coach Trevor Griffin discussed the successful campaign before Claire Nicholas picked up the award for Supporter’s Player of the Year. Claire won the award after receiving the most votes in a ballot that was open to the public.

In her absence the trophy was collected on her behalf by teammate Sophie Luff who received the trophy from Richard Brice, Managing Director of Somerset County Sports.

Rachel Priest was then presented with the Players’ Player of the Season trophy by Hayley Mortimer, Director of Sport at Taunton School. Rachel scored 261 runs in the tournament with a top score of 106 not out. She was also awarded Player of the Match in the final against Southern Vipers.

Western Storm General Manager Lisa Pagett said: “This was a great way to end what has been a remarkable season for us all. To be included into these awards evenings is fantastic and I would like to thank both Somerset and Gloucestershire for making us feel so welcome during the last two years."

“I would also like to thank our 2018 partners Taunton School, Wollen Michelmore,  Somerset County Sports and Tyka.”
