Wear red on Sunday to support BrAMS

Gloucestershire Cricket are continuing to show their support for the Bristol and Avon Multiple Sclerosis Centre (BrAMS) based at Frenchay by making the first day of their LV= County Championship match v Essex County Cricket Club the ‘Batting for BrAMS’ MS Awareness match.
Fans are being asked to ‘Go Red’ to kick start the national MS Awareness week. Whether it is socks, trousers, T-shirts, a wig or a slick of lipstick, everyone is being encouraged to wear red at this weekend’s match on Sunday 27April 2014 in exchange for a donation to the charity which can be put in the buckets at the lunchtime break or by texting REDS60 £2 to 70070.
BrAMS provides pioneering research, treatment and therapies for people with MS in the South West and beyond and when it opened was the first centre of its kind in the UK.
As part of the programme of treatment, each week physiotherapists from BrAMS run a special training session called ‘Batting for BrAMS’ for people in the early stages of the condition at BS7 Gym at The Bristol County Ground. Within the first six months of launching, the project has been so successful that a second weekly session has been set up by staff at the gym where after a 40 minute workout, the group has an opportunity to socialise and enjoy the facilities in the new Bristol Pavilion.
“I can’t wait to see a sea of red around the ground as Gloucestershire fans show their support for this fantastic charity.” Roz Hutchings, Head of Community Engagement told us. “Seeing the impact the ‘Batting for BrAMS’ programme at BS7 Gym has had on people’s lives has been staggering. Not just for the participants in the programme but also for their family, friends and wider community.”
On Sunday’s match every participant from ‘Batting for BrAMS’ is being invited as a guest of the club along with a friend or carer, to help raise awareness of the project and gain support for the charity.
In addition to asking fans and staff to wear red during Sunday’s match there will be films shown about the charity, information about how to donate, bucket collections and details about the ‘Batting for BrAMS’ programme at the gym.
BrAMS fundraising manager Liz Bond says: “What we’re asking is such a small favour but your donations will have such a big impact on the charity. It’s fantastic Gloucestershire County Cricket Club are supporting us in raising awareness of this condition which affects people of all ages and from all walks of life.”
