We have to start again - Dawson

4 August 2018

Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson says Friday's defeat at Glamorgan puts the emphasis on responding to it with a win on Sunday when Gloucestershire play South Group leaders Kent in the Vitality T20 Blast at Canterbury (3.00pm)

Andrew Tye faced Timm van der Gugten's final ball knowing a boundary would secure victory after being asked to chase 202, but his stumps were shattered to leave Gloucestershire beaten by two runs.

"It was a decent game, and you look around the tourmament and it isn't a surprise any more if a side gets 200" Dawson said. "They posted a decent total, although we weren't as smart with the ball as we have been in previous games, but the way Jack Taylor batted along with contributions from the others got us really close."

"We won't get too down on ourselves after one result. There was some good things to take out of the performance and there are some really simple improvements we can make. If we do that we'll put ouselves in a decent position."

For the third game in five days, Dawson will again take a squad of 14 to Canterbury, where Gloucestershire defended 138 last year to win by eight runs. Beny Howell took 2-12 that night, and goes into Sunday's match needing two wickets to reach 100 globally in T20 cricket.

Squad:

Klinger (c), Hammond, Cockbain, Howell, Higgins, J.Taylor, Noema-Barnett, Roderick, van Buuren, Tye, Payne, Dent, M.Taylor, Drissell.

Kent currently top the South Group, with their only defeat coming at the Brightside Ground when Gloucestershire held their nerve to win by five runs after Mitchell Claydon was left to hit the last ball for six. They have beaten the bottom two sides this week in Essex and Hampshire, and they now have Australian Marcus Stoinis as their second overseas player.

"I watched their game against Essex and they're in form so we'll have to be sharp because we need to win" Dawson added.

"We want the boys to be clear about our plans. Michael (Klinger) spoke in the dressing room about converting a start into a big score, and in the field it's about getting the thought process right to deliver the ball we want. The more we do that, the easier things become."
