Vitality Blast preview | Gloucestershire vs Sussex Sharks

Gloucestershire host Sussex Sharks in the fourth Vitality Blast match of the season on Sunday 9th June.

The fixture will follow Western Storm vs Southern Vipers in a double-header matchday and will see Gloucestershire take on Sussex for the second time in just over a week. Mark Alleyne’s team will be hoping to strike revenge following a narrow final-ball defeat on the South Coast in round two of the tournament.

Gloucestershire go into the match against Sussex looking to bounce back following defeat against Hampshire Hawks last night.

Gloucestershire sit in sevent place in the South Group table on two points from three games will Sussex sit three places above on four points from three matches.

Mark Alleyne selects an unchanged 15-man squad from the one that faced Hampshire Hawks on Friday night.

Spinner Tom Smith misses out due to a back injury as does Zafar Gohar with a hamstring injury, while Tom Price and Dom Goodman continue their return to full fitness.

Sussex recorded an emphatic 36-run win against Surrey at the Oval last night, adding two points to the two they earned in their win over Gloucestershire eight days ago.

Daniel Hughes with 65 and Tom Alsop with 68 starred with the bat for the visitors while Nathan McAndrew took a three-wicket-haul to stunt the Surrey response.

LAST MEETING

Last time out against Sussex, Gloucestershire fell to an agonising three-wicket defeat as the hosts posted 168/7 in reply to Shire’s 167/8.

Jack Taylor with 52 off 35 balls starred in Gloucestershire’s batting innings while Matt Taylor took 3-32 with the ball.

In the last match between the two sides at the Seat Unique Stadium in June 2023, Sussex cruised to a seven-wicket victory which was spearheaded by Harrison Ward’s 51 from 27 deliveries.
