Unicornfest is coming to Glos Cricket – Visit our Unicorn from July 1st
20 June 2023
Introducing Nevil the Unicorn… Gloucestershire’s cricket-inspired contribution to the latest sculpture trail to hit Bristol’s streets, Unicornfest.
The campaign, which is in aid of Leukamia Care UK, is part of the 650th anniversary celebrations for Bristol and seeks to bring art, colour and fun to the streets of the city this year.
Gloucestershire Cricket is one of more than 40 local businesses that have sponsored a Unicorn, all of which will appear at major landmarks spread across Bristol and the South West, from Clifton Suspension Bridge to the Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare.
Shire’s Unicorn, aptly named Nevil, will be open to view to the public at the Seat Unique Stadium on Nevil Road, the home of Gloucestershire Cricket from Saturday 1 July. Nevil’s incredible design, which depicts a fun-filled family day out watching Gloucestershire in action, was created and painted by local illustrator, Jayde Perkin.
The eye-catching cricket scene features a number of recognisable faces and Glos legends, ideal for taking selfies as you make your way around the Unicorn Trail.
Jayde Perkin, the artist behind Nevil’s illustration, said: “It’s been so much fun collaborating with the team at Gloucestershire and at Unicornfest to create Nevil the unicorn. We wanted Nevil to encapsulate the community of cricket, a space where people of all ages can come together to enjoy summer evenings watching cricket together.”
Nevil will be located just inside the Grace Gates, next to BS7 Gym, at the Nevil Road entrance to the Seat Unique Stadium. It will be open for viewing in accordance with gym opening times, which can be found here. Nevil will be closed for viewing on only two days, Wednesday 12 July and Tuesday 26 September due to international matches being hosted at the Seat Unique Stadium.
Neil Priscott, Chief Operating Officer at Gloucestershire Cricket, said: “It’s a real pleasure to be a part of Unicornfest and join in with the 650th anniversary celebrations for the city of Bristol. We’ve seen in the past how popular sculpture trails have proved to be in years gone by and we’re very happy to be a part of this unique event.
“Jayde has done an amazing job with the illustration of Nevil. The design encapsulates exactly what a day out at the Seat Unique Stadium looks like; fun for all the family and a great way to spend a summer’s day.”
