Unchanged squad for Hampshire at home
13 June 2016
Head coach Richard Dawson will again pick from a squad of 14 for Tuesday's Royal London Cup group match against Hampshire at the Brightside Ground.
David Payne is included after missing four of the last five limited overs games with an ankle injury.
"David had played a lot of Championship cricket in the first part of the season" Dawson said. "We knew that with a busy schedule we couldn't keep using the same bowlers and Matt Taylor has come in and bowled really well. Selection isn't always about form, it's about tactics and using the squad sensibly."
Squad :
Klinger (c), Dent, Cockbain, Roderick, Marshall, Howell, Noema-Barnett, J.Taylor, Smith, Miles, Norwell, M. Taylor, Van Buuren, Payne.
Gloucestershire are yet to register a victory in the South group, but beat Hampshire by four wickets at the Brightside Ground last season in the quarter finals, and Dawson would certainly settle for a similar result.
"No-one is kidding themselves, we have had a bad week and we want to bounce back from it" he said. "All the players want to do well and if the attitude is right and the effort is there that's all you can ask."
"We have made mistakes which have cost us so far, put us on the back foot and put the opposition in the ascendancy. You could argue with hindsight that on good pitches we should have had 50-60 more runs, and that in the field we've not hit the standards we set for ourselves. We've not looked at the table since the first match. We try and win the game that's in front of us, that's all you can deal with."
Hampshire are without James Vince, who has been named in the England squad for the one day and T20 internationals against Sri Lanka, but they have included Shahid Afridi - the veteran Pakistan all rounder originally signed to play in the NatWest T20 Blast - and Kolpak registered West Indian fast bowler Tino Best in their match day squad.
"Afridi is a dangerous player" Dawson went on. " It's not just about his power hitting with the bat, he's also transformed his game so that he's one of the best one day bowlers as well."
"We've got to trust what we do and be more consistent with it. We've done some good stuff, now it's about committing to the plan, thinking about decisions in the game and using our skills better than we have done. We want a dry day and a win. It's pretty simple really."
A reminder the match starts at 2.00pm with gates open from 12 noon.
