Trophy Hopes End In Semi Finals
13 July 2013
Gloucestershire’s hopes of lifting the Second XI T20 Trophy were dashed in a semi-final defeat by eventual winners Surrey at Arundel.
A strong Surrey side posted 168-6 after winning the toss, with Gary Wilson making 52 and Glenn Maxwell 33. Paul Muchall claimed three wickets, while Liam Norwell and Matt Taylor bowled well.
Gloucestershire made a steady start in their bid to reach the final with former Surrey batsmen Tom Lancefield scoring an early boundary off the bowling of Jon Lewis.
But Maxwell dismissed Lancefield in the next over and some tight Surrey bowling soon reduced their opponents to 46-4.
Gloucestershire lost six wickets for just seven runs as they were bowled out for just 83. Surrey won by 85 runs and went on to beat Middlesex in the final.
