Eoin Morgan’s men, who recently made the highest ever total in a One-Day International – 444 v Pakistan – return to The Brightside Ground to take on Ireland and the West Indies.
England’s Royal London match v Ireland on Friday 5 May is the first of a huge summer of limited overs cricket that includes the ICC Champions Trophy in June. This game will be a vital part of the side’s preparation as they seek to win the competition for the first time.
At the opposite end of the season, the clash with the West Indies is set to light up the last throes of summer on Sunday 24 September.
Chief Executive Will Brown said, ‘2017 is set to be a historic year for The Brightside Ground, hosting two full one day Internationals and up to 8 ICC Women’s World Cup games in the one season.
'England versus Ireland should not only be a great game but also represents a fantastic first with England hosting Ireland in an ODI in England for the first time ever.
'It is the first Men’s International match of the year in England and with moments of cricketing history often few and far between, we look forward to welcoming a big crowd for this double celebration.
‘England versus the West Indies at the end of September should be another great game with plenty of big hitting power on both sides. The West Indian party spirit is sure to make this match a great finale for an iconic International season for Bristol.’
After England’s extraordinary run scoring exploits at Lord’s there is talk that Bristol, with its short straight boundaries, could be the perfect venue to witness the first score of 500 in 50 over cricket.
The team have been transformed since making an early exit from the 2015 World Cup, recording six of their highest eight totals in the 18 months that have followed.
Individual records have tumbled during that same period. Wicketkeeper, Jos Buttler, broke his own record for the fastest hundred v Pakistan in the UAE last November, taking just 46 balls.
Earlier this year Alex Hales and Jason Roy set a new record for England’s highest ODI partnership – 256* v Sri Lanka at Edgbaston.
And in reaching 444 in their recent match v Pakistan England hit the most boundaries in an innings – 43 fours and 16 sixes – with Hales surpassing Robin Smith’s long-standing record (167) for the highest individual score, making 171. In the same game, Buttler reached 50 in just 22 balls – quicker than any other England batsman.
And what of England’s opponents?
With the likes of former Gloucestershire batsman Kevin O’Brien, and current County players like Paul Stirling and Gary Wilson in their side, the Irish are a dangerous outfit and one that England won’t take lightly.
Meanwhile, the World T20 winners, West Indies, will be keen to transfer their form to one day cricket. They boast a whole host of captivating cricketers including Marlon Samuels, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard and Carlos Brathwaite, who struck England’s Ben Stokes for four sixes in four balls during the final over to secure that T20 title.
