There Is Still Work To Do - Alex
20 July 2012
Alex Gidman was taking nothing for granted after Gloucestershire worked themselves into a strong position on the third day of the LV=County Championship match with Leicestershire at Cheltenham.
The visitors closed on 142-5 in their second innings, just 75 runs ahead, after James Fuller's maiden first class half century had helped Gloucestershire to a first innings lead of 67.
Fuller hit 57, sharing a significant eighth-wicket stand of 95 with Ed Young, who made 37, in a first innings total of 229.
At the close of play Alex told this website: "I think today could have been better. We weren't quite on the money for some of it, but in the end we are in a promising poaition.
"We have given ourselves a chance of forcing a win, but tomorrow we need to be right up for it. As a group we weren't quite at our best today.
"We still need five wickets and the outfield is getting quicker, while the wicket is still okay. It's turning a bit,, but we will have to work hard to bowl Leicestershire out.
"The partnership between James Fuller and Ed Young was massive in the context of the game. If we had not achieved a decent first innings lead the game would now be fizzling out.
"James is a very talented cricketer. We saw his ball striking in some of the T20 games and he is a genuine all-rounder.
"He needs to build his confidence and realise what he is capable of. Then we will see performances like that more often."
