Thatchers Cider hits the spot with Gloucestershire fans

17 September 2021

West Country cidermakers Thatchers helped Gloucestershire create matchdays to remember once again this season after hitting the spot with supporters.

As Gloucestershire Cricket’s official cider partner, Thatchers supplied the Club with its flagship cider drinks, Thatchers Gold and Thatchers Haze, which flowed through the pumps at Bristol County Ground and at the Visit Cayman Islands Cheltenham Cricket Festival this year. The Somerset-produced cider proved to be as popular as ever with Gloucestershire supporters, as the Club welcomed crowds back into the ground after almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Through acting as the Club’s T20 matchday activation partner, Thatchers also played a massive part in ensuring fans remain as an ever-present part of the action during the explosive 20-over matches in Bristol and at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival. From inflatable apple racing during the interval to a Thatchers gold ticket cider giveaway, Thatchers played a key role in bringing people together to cheer on Gloucestershire in the T20 tournament.

Philip McTeer, Head of Marketing at Thatchers Cider, said: “It’s been fantastic to be part of the action at the Bristol County Ground this year with Gloucestershire Cricket. As a local family business we’ve been a long-term supporter of the club, and through the new Thatchers bar, and activities on match days at the Ground as well as at the Cheltenham Cricket festival, we’ve always been made very welcome by the club and fans. We’re delighted to bring a taste of Thatchers to the club.”

Gloucestershire’s partnership with Thatchers, which will enter its ninth year for the 2022 domestic cricket season, grew even stronger with the success of our newly-opened Thatchers Bar, which provided and will continue to provide cricket fans with an extra special matchday experience. Formerly known as the Hammond Bar, the premium venue offers spectators a spacious and comfortable area to watch the on-field cricket action. The bar is equipped with TVs which showcase live sport as well as Gloucestershire Cricket’s ball-by-ball online stream.

Alongside its matchday offering, the Thatchers Bar also provides exciting additional private hire for parties, events and meetings, alongside the Bristol Pavilion’s already well-established conference and event facilities.

Thatchers, a family-run cider farm, will enjoy another year as the Club’s official cider partner in 2022 and continue as one of Gloucestershire Cricket’s key partners until at least 2025.

Neil Priscott, Gloucestershire CCC’s Commercial and Marketing Director, said: "Gloucestershire Cricket has been incredibly well supported by Thatchers throughout the whole pandemic and it was heartening for us all when we could finally open the doors to our members and supporters this year, so they could see the new Thatchers Bar operating in all its glory.

‘The sight of Glos fans enjoying a Thatchers in the summer sun, and delighting at the interval entertainment during our T20 games, was a reminder that cricket in Bristol was well and truly back! We very much look forward to continuing our excellent relationship into a future we’re all excited about."
