Everyone here at the Club would like to thank Will for all his hard work and determination and wish him the best of luck in future endeavours.
Read the full statement from Tavaré below:
It is with a heavy heart that I’m writing to say I am hanging up my boots at the end of the summer. Making my debut for Gloucersterhire Youth at 11 never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would go on to play for the senior side at 16 and then make a hundred on my Championship debut, I certainly didn’t imagine bringing it up with a six! It was such an honour to captain a handful of games for such a historic club! I’ve been brought up with so many of my teammates and I will miss that changing room more than anything in the world.
That victory at Lords alongside my best mates will be almost impossible to beat and singing “Glorious Glosters” in front of thousands of fans was the most special thing I’ve shared with such a loyal bunch. I’ve played with and against some of the best players in the world and managed to travel to all corners of the globe from stunning Sri Lanka to my second home in Melbourne thanks to this magical sport. I cannot thank everyone enough for the support they have given me over the years and feel so lucky to have shared my journey with you.
Anyone who knows my parents, know that without them and my brothers; who bowled and argued endlessly with me in the garden, none of this would have been possible. Not forgetting the constant support from my grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and mates who were always on the sideline cheering me on.
Cricket was never supposed to feel like a job and money was just a bonus, I just wanted to see what I could achieve. But now is the right time to move on to the next stage of my life, but until the end of the summer there is still a lot to play for and I will give my everything these last few months to end on a high with Gloucestershire! This hasn’t been a quick or easy decision, but I can’t wait to spend more time with my family, friends and especially Claudia who has been my rock these past few years.
I will always remain an avid supporter of Gloucestershire CCC just as I have been since I was a little lad! Good luck to the boys in the future I know they are only moving forward, and I can’t wait to watch their many successes! Cheers Tav #4
