Opposition team selected for T20 warm up match at Clifton College

18 June 2017

Gloucestershire Cricket are preparing for their upcoming NatWest T20 Blast by taking on a team that includes a number of top club cricketers.

Gloucestershire, who reached the T20 quarter finals in 2016 will play a team featuring some of this season’s top performing amateur players in a one-off T20 match at Clifton College on Friday June 23 (4pm start).

The side is captained by former Gloucestershire all-rounder Paul Muchall (Bath) and includes a mix of Gloucestershire pros who have yet to make their T20 debut, Academy prospects and amateur players.

The match gets underway at 4pm. It is free to attend and a bar will be open throughout the match.

Based largely on this season’s statistics, the team was selected by the Gloucestershire coaching staff.

In addition to Muchall, other players with First Class and/or List A experience include current Gloucestershire batsman George Hankins and wicketkeeper James Bracey (Bristol) who made his County Championship debut in 2016. Also appearing is former Glos spinner Ed Young who now plays for Potterne and Wiltshire.

Current Glos batsman Brandon Gilmour (Downend) makes the team after averaging over 50 in white ball cricket for the 2nd XI in 2017. And there are also places for Academy bowlers Dominic Hooper (Claverham), George Drissell and Jack Hobbs (both Bedminster).

The final places have gone to players who have shown exceptional form in club cricket this season. Jacob Lintott has been selected after scoring successive centuries for West of England Premier League (WEPL) high flyers Clevedon. The 24-year-old also took four wickets in his side’s last match against Lechlade.

Rockhampton batsman Will Tyler plays after scoring 399 runs in Glos/Wilts Premier 2 this season at an average of 79.80 and a strike rate of 73. And allrounder Ross Martin, who marked his recent return to Frocester with a 47 ball hundred against Downend has also been called up.

The match gets underway at 4pm. It is free to attend and a bar will be open throughout the match.
