Skipper Makes It Back To Back Tons

10 May 2013

Michael Klinger hit 131 not out as Gloucestershire produced an impressive batting display on the third day of the LV=County Championship match with Hampshire at Bristol.

That followed the captain's unbeaten hundred in the Championship victory over Leicestershire last week. and helped his side close on 284-2 in reply to Hampshire's 274.

Dan Housego contributed 56, Chris Dent 45 and Alex Gidman 38 not out, but it was Klinger who did most to discourage the visiting attack, striking 13 fours and two sixes in facing 219 balls.

In between his two hundreds the Australian scored an unbeaten half-century in the Yorkshire Bank 40 win over the Unicorns at Wormsley, so he is in a rich vein of form.

At the close Michael told this website: "It's really nice to have found some form after scratching around a bit in my early innings for the club.

"I had a bit of luck when dropped early on and sometimes you need that. The most important thing is that we have moved into a strong position and can try to force a result if the weather allows tomorrow.

"The aim will be to get as far ahead as possible by lunch and reassess things then. We are the only team who can win the game, even though that will be tough with so much time lost."

The day began with Hampshire 264-9 in their first innings. Craig Miles soon picked up the final wicket to finish with 4-83, the best figures of his fledgling Championship career.

Hampshire skipper Jimmy Adams carried his bat for a superb 138 not out, having rescued his side from a perilous 97-8.

Seventeen overs were lost to rain and bad light, which eventually ended play at 5.50pm.
