Roderick Back To Face Hampshire

30 July 2014

Gareth Roderick returned to Gloucestershire's team for the Royal London One-Day Cup clash with Hampshire at Bristol today.

The wicketkeeper has been out since breaking a finger for the second time this year, but is now recovered and took over the gloves from trialist Adam Rouse.

Roderick's inclusion was one of two changes from the team who beat Yorkshire at Headingley on Tuesday. Will Tavare was brought in  to strengthen the batting at the expense of Tom Smith.

Hampshire won the toss and invited the home side to bat first. Michael Klinger has warned his side not to let standards slip after the excellent result against Yorkshire.

The skipper was delighted with the improvement shown in the three-wicket victory at Headingley yesterday and wants nothing less than a repeat performance.

He told this website: “Like Yorkshire, Hampshire are a very talented one-day side, with a lot of quality players.

“After the game at Headingley I called the team together and told them they had set the standard for this competition with the bowling and fielding display.

“We can still do better as a batting unit, but the Yorkshire game suggested that if we do get everything right on a particular day, we are capable of beating anyone.”

Hampshire have already beaten Gloucestershire in both the LV=County Championship and the NatWest T20 Blast this season, the latter game being decided by just two runs.

Michael added: “If we’re honest that was a bit closer than it might have been because Benny Howell played a superb innings for us at the end.

“We know Hampshire’s strengths and we will have to be at our best to beat them. But there was a lot of confidence to be drawn from beating Yorkshire and now we need to build on it.”

Alex Gidman was again ruled out by a back injury.

Gloucestershire: M Klinger (capt), H.Marshall, W.Tavare, C Dent, I Cockbain, W Gidman, B.Howell, G.Roderick (wkt), J Taylor, C Miles, D Payne.
