Shrewsbury In Squad To Face Glamorgan

30 July 2013

Eighteen-year-old off-spinner Tom Shrewsbury has been named in Gloucestershire’s squad for tonight’s final Friends Life t20 game against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

The England Under-19 player could well make his debut as the team conclude what has proved a disappointing Midlands/Wales/West Division campaign.

Will Gidman has also been selected in a squad of 13, but Gloucestershire will give another chance to the batting line-up, who performed poorly in the last game against Somerset.

Shrewsbury was part of the Gloucestershire team who reached Second XI T20 Finals Day at Arundel this season. He represented England Under-19s in South Africa last winter.

Craig Miles could be given more T20 experience this evening, but the pitches at Cardiff tend to be on the slow side, which may mean two or more spinners are employed.

Tom Smith makes the last appearance of his loan spell with Middlesex, although it could be extended subject to talks between the clubs later this week.

Glamorgan can still qualify for the quarter-finals, with Warwickshire and Somerset, who face each other at Edgbaston this evening, also in contention to finish second in the group.

Squad from: Michael Klinger, Chris Dent, Hamish Marshall, Dan Christian, Alex Gidman, Ian Cockbain, Benny Howell, Gareth Roderick, Tom Smith, Craig Miles, Tom Shrewsbury, Will Gidman, Liam Norwell
