Saxelby Back In Action At Shenley

7 April 2014

Ian Saxelby will return to action for Gloucestershire second XI in a pre-season game with MCC Young Cricketers at Shenley, starting tomorrow.

The 24-year-old seamer, who has battled to recover from major shoulder and knee problems, suffered another setback when forced off in the middle of an over in a recent warm-up game against Glamorgan at Cardiff.

But that proved no more serious than a niggle in a quad muscle and Ian remains on course to return to first team action this summer.

If he comes through the two-day game against MCC Young Cricketers there is a chance he could feature in the opening LV=County Championship match against Hampshire at Bristol, starting on Sunday.

Gareth Roderick’s hopes of playing in that fixture hinge on a visit to a specialist on Thursday.

The wicketkeeper fractured a finger in the warm-up for the friendly against Somerset last Friday and the extent of the damage is still being assessed.

Cameron Herring stands by to be behind the stumps against Hampshire. He is due to keep wicket in the three-day match against Cardiff MCCU at the County Ground, the first day of which was washed out today.

The rest of week looks more settled. Weather permitting, play will begin at 11am tomorrow and admission is free.
