Roderick Set For Gloucestershire Debut

3 May 2013

Gareth Roderick (pictured) and Graeme McCarter have been named in a squad of 12 for the opening Yorkshire Bank 40 game of the season against Leicestershire at Grace Road on Saturday.

Roderick will take over the wicketkeeping duties from Cameron Herring and is set to make his Gloucestershire debut after taking the West of England Premier League by storm with his run-making last summer.

McCarter impressed with his seam bowling in the second XI friendly against Nottinghamshire at Thornbury Cricket Club this week and also scored some runs in that game.

Ian Cockbain also comes into the squad. Dan Housego and Craig Miles drop out, having been selected for the Championship game at the same venue.

Skipper Michael Klinger told this website: "I haven't played a lot of 40-over cricket, but I am really looking forward to this competition.

"One good thing from my point of view is that the rule changes in the YB40 this summer, with only four men allowed outside the circle after the power plays, is what we are used to with our one-day cricket in Australia.

"I think it might take some counties time to adjust to the new rules and hopefully we can apply them sensibly to help us make a good start.

"It will be a big day for Gareth Roderick. I'm told he has looked really good with the gloves during the winter and he should also strengthen our middle order batting."
