Roderick hungry for more silverware after signing new contract

Gloucestershire wicket/keeper batsman Gareth Roderick said he wants to help the club build on last season’s Royal London One-Day Cup success after signing a new three year contract.
The deal will see the 24-year-old remain at the Bristol County Ground until the end of the 2018 season.
He said: “The stage I’m at in my career, the lads we have in the changing room and the success we had last year winning the Royal London One-Day Cup made it an easy decision.
“You never quite know what your hunger to win a trophy will be until you’ve won one. I think for us the hunger is there even more now that we’ve done it. We know what that feeling is and we want it back.
“We want to be in contention for all three competitions. We want to be pushing for promotion in the Championship, we want to make T20 finals day and get to at least the knockout stages of the One-Day Cup. That may not be all in one year but I think all of the lads have the ambition and drive to achieve that.”

Gareth – who was born and grew up in South Africa – joined Gloucestershire in autumn 2012 following an outstanding season as Cheltenham CC’s overseas player in the Western Premier League.
He currently averages over 40 in First Class cricket and made his first one day hundred last season in the one-run win over Leicestershire in the RL Cup.
A British passport holder, Gareth will become eligible to play for England in 2019 through residency.
And he says that the club’s ability to help players develop was a major reason in committing his future to Gloucestershire.
He said: “In regard to my own ‘keeping and batting I feel that the growth I’ve had here is significant. I have a great rapport with the coaches, I believe they can help me develop further and of course that was another factor in me staying.
“To be batting at the top of the order and to be the only gloveman on staff at the minute is a responsibility I enjoy and it’s a challenge I’m looking forward to.”
In addition to the squad’s development on the field, Gareth says he has been impressed by the club’s growth off the pitch in recent years.
Since 2012 the club has completely redeveloped the Bristol County Ground including opened a new state-of-the-art pavilion. It has and hosted international men’s and women’s matches and will have floodlights installed in time for the first NatWest T20 Blast match in May.
Gareth said: “Having seen the things going on behind the scenes since I joined, the only conclusion you can reach is that this is a club moving in the right direction. It’s been awesome to part of the journey for three years. I’ve got no idea where the club will be in another three but it’s exciting.”
Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson said it was a great boost for the club to have secured Gareth’s services for three more years.
He said: “I am delighted that Gareth has decided to extend his contract with Gloucestershire. He has been an integral part of the first team throughout the three years he has been here and can play a key role in taking the club forward to further success.
“He played a large part in our 50 over trophy win last year and he’s got massive potential across all three formats.
“I am pleased that he wants to continue his development here and the coaches look forward to working with him over the next three years.”
