Roderick Does It Again With Match Saving Ton
31 August 2013
Gareth Roderick hit 136 as Gloucestershire batted out for a draw on the final day of the LV=County Championship match with Essex at Bristol.
The wicketkeeper followed up his maiden first class ton, which helped save the previous game against Kent at Canterbury, with another gutsy effort.
Gloucestershire began the final day under pressure on 19 without loss, needing an unlikely 432 to win, but never looked seriously in danger of losing.
Michael Klinger reached 1,000 runs in both first class and Championship cricket while contributing 62 and shared a second wicket stand of 137 with Roderick.
Later Hamish Marshall made 42 and even though Essex took three wickets with the second new ball, Gloucestershire were 355-6 at the close.
Roderick survived a blow on the helmet from a delivery from the fiery Tymal Mills to reach his century, having been caught off a no-ball on 79.
The young South African batted for most of the day, confirming the progess he has made in his first season of county cricket.
Gloucestershire took eight points and Essex 11. For more details of the final day click on Cricket and then Match Reports.
