Rodders returns to Cheltenham for "Evening With The Champions" event
2 February 2016
Gloucestershire wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick received a warm welcome on his return to former club Cheltenham for the latest in the “Evening With The Champions” event.
Roderick and head coach Richard Dawson’s visit to the Victoria Ground was the seventh leg of a tour that will eventually take in 15 clubs across the county.
The Royal London One-Day Cup winners gave a behind-the-scenes insight into the famous win over Surrey at Lord’s and answered questions on wide range of subjects.
Gareth - who helped Cheltenham win promotion from the Glo/Wilts division of WEPL (West of England Premier League) in 2012 –was quizzed on his pathway into professional cricket, his captaincy aspirations and was even asked who his favourite coach was.
Dawson discussed player development and the role of coach as well as bringing fans up to speed with the current squad.
At the end of the evening – which followed Cheltenham’s AGM – club chairman Andrew Gallagher presented Gareth with a framed copy of his impressive statistics from 2012.
The “Evening With The Champions” events were designed by Richard Dawson as a way to strengthen ties between Gloucestershire’s clubs and the professional team.
So far the evenings have ranged from informal question and answer sessions to staged interviews. Clubs have been given the option to organise the evenings however they would like with some choosing to use them to bring the community together and others to raise money for the club.
