Robert (Bob) Hill R.I.P.

2 September 2015

It is with deep regret that Gloucestershire Cricket announces the death of Life Member, Robert (Bob) Hill.

Bob, who was one of the Club’s most loyal supporters, passed away after a long battle with ill health on Friday 28 August (his 56th birthday) at the Gloucester Royal Hospital.  He was an active supporter of the Club, most recently attending every day of the Cheltenham Cricket Festival.

Bob worked for the family business in Stroud, T Butt & Son, a builder's merchants.  His late father, Ken, served for many years on the Stroud Region, the Council and Executive Board.  Bob followed in his footsteps serving on both the Stroud Regional Committee and Council.

He was equally at home with both members and supporters, sharing his passion for the game.  At one stage Bob chalked up a record of having been to over 200 consecutive Sunday League Games and received an award, appropriately at his beloved Cheltenham, when he reached his “double century.”

In later years Bob supported both the Club’s Former Players’ Day at Bristol and the annual PCA Day at Cheltenham.  He was also one of the driving forces behind Frocester Cricket Club, giving generously so that they could enjoy several trophy and league wins in recent years.

He was also a big fan and a Director of Stenhousemuir FC, who play in Scottish League Division One.  Through his business, he once sponsored 'The Warriors' (as they are known) and the Scottish Sun was so taken aback as to why someone from several hundred miles away would sponsor a Club in the lower reaches of the Scottish leagues that they ran a story - on page three!

Bob will be missed by all those Gloucestershire supporters, and there were many, who were privileged to know him or to have met him - a true gent and supporter of the Club.

Our condolences are with his family and his wife Carolynne.
