10 October 2022
All at Gloucestershire Cricket are hugely saddened to learn of the death of Rex Body, former Chair and President of the Club on the morning of the 8th October.
Rex, born in Guernsey but living most of his life in Bristol, was always a keen cricket supporter and at various points served on the Bristol region committee, the general committee and as a vice-president of the Club. After a distinguished career at Rolls Royce he took over as Chair of the Club before being appointed President in 2015. Rex and his wife Wendy were ever present supporters of the teams and were well known across the country as welcome and generous representatives of the Club. Both Rex and Wendy were instrumental in setting up the GCCC Heritage Trust and have tirelessly worked to raise funds for and launch both the “Heritage Trust” and the Museum and Learning Centre based at the ground which is used regularly by schools, community groups and cricket supporters.
During Rex’s time as Deputy Chair and then Chair of the Club he led the planning for the major re-development of the ground that took place in 2012/13 which included the re-building of the Bristol Pavilion and also helped in cementing Bristol as a regular host for Men’s and Women’s International cricket.
David Jones, Chair of the Club said:
“Rex was an absolute gentleman and he confidently steered the Club through some very challenging times. We are lucky to have benefited from his experience and huge commitment to the Club he loved. He will be sadly missed.”
Rex is survived by Wendy, his wife and partner of 57 years and all our love and thoughts are with Wendy and his friends and family at this time.
