Rain Intervenes With Leicestershire On Top
12 September 2012
Rain meant only 38 overs were bowled on the second day of the LV=County Championship match with Leicestershire at Grace Road.
What play was possible saw the home side advance from an overnight 94-3 to 220-5, Greg Smith scoring 77 and Shiv Thakor an unbeaten 68.
Liam Norwell and Jack Taylor were the successful bowlers, Norwell bowling Josh Cobb for 11 and Taylor accounting for Smith, who fell to a catch by Dan Housego, having hit 13 fours.
Having posted 234 in their first innings, Gloucestershire looked well in the game when Smith was out with the total 155-5.
But Thakor and Wayne White (20 not out) then out together an unbroken stand of 65 to leave the hosts only 14 runs behind.
Norwell had figures of 2-38 from 12.2 overs when the rain came, while Will Gidman had 2-50, having struck twice on the opening day.
