Quiz & Trail participants wowed by new Pavilion

5 June 2013

The gates at the Bristol County Ground were opened to the public this half term for an exclusive look at the new Pavilion, due to be finished in just two months.

Parents took advantage of the free ‘Quiz and Trail’, which was the launch of a brand new programme at the ground with a focus of opening up the club and facilities to the community – whether people are into cricket or not.

“We wanted to arrange an event for the half term holidays so families could come and enjoy this fantastic green open space that’s here just off Gloucester Rd – which many people don’t know about.” Roz Hutchings, the club’s new Head of Community Engagement explains.

“It was an opportunity for children to learn about cricket, Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and also take part in some cricket activities organised by the Gloucestershire Cricket Board – our team who take cricket out to the community.”

In August the new Bristol Pavilion will be finished complete with stunning views across the pitch, a 400 capacity conferencing & events centre and state of the art media broadcast studios.

“A lot of the children were really excited to see the cranes lifting the massive panes of glass into the new Pavilion as well as the two tall cranes in action at the opposite end of the ground where 147 flats are being built.”

The young cricket fans also got to meet Batsman Richard Coughtrie who was signing autographs in the club shop at the end of the trail and then handed a goody bag as they left the ground.

“We’ve lived two streets along from the Bristol County Ground for years but have never come through the gates before.” one Mum told us. “We’ll be keeping an eye out now for more events like this to bring the kids along to and certainly consider watching some cricket.”

Later this year plenty more community events are being planned which include an opening ceremony for the Bristol Pavilion with a big name celebrity cutting the ribbon. For more keep an eye out on the club’s website www.gloscricket.co.uk

In the meantime, we have a special day planned for Dad on Father’s Day – 16 June.
