Purple Family Day raises £3,000 for Grief Encounter

Gloucestershire is delighted to reveal that the Purple Family Day held in June raised an incredible £3,001.62 for Grief Encounter.
Purple Family Day took place at the Seat Unique Stadium on Sunday 9th June during Gloucestershire’s T20 Vitality Blast match against Sussex Sharks. The day was focused around fundraising for bereavement charity Grief Encounter, who provided vital support to Gloucestershire spinner Tom Smith and his two daughters following the tragic death of Tom’s wife, Laura, in 2018.
The matchday saw both Western Storm and Gloucestershire take part in a celebration of the colour purple, which is synonymous with Grief Encounter, by wearing limited edition purple playing shirts.
Thanks to not only the sale of the limited edition replica shirts in our Club shop, which raised £797.43, but also the generous donations of more than £2,200 from fans who attended the match, a grand total of £3,001.62 was raised for Grief Encounter.
A donation of this size for the charity could help them to provide Teen Journals, designed in-house and specifically for teens so that they can have a specialist support tool to help them navigate their grief in their own unique way. The money could also help with purchasing some exciting and fun new objects and fabrics to help with dance and movement therapy at Grief Encounter’s Bristol hub.
Gloucestershire Cricket and Grief Encounter would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity.
