Gloucestershire Cricket is ‘bowled’ over by its new Cornwall-inspired hospitality area, created by the UK’s leading Cornish pasty manufacturer, Proper Cornish.

The ‘Taste of Cornwall’ café celebrates one of the club’s fast bowlers, Liam ‘Pasty’ Norwell, who grew up in Redruth and is a lover of authentic, Proper Cornish pasties.

Cricket fans and players can now tuck into Cornish pasties and Cheese and Onion pasties (£3.50) with a pint of the famous Tribute Ale by fellow sponsor St Austell Brewery (£3.70), also based in Cornwall.

A large map of Cornwall pin-points the companies’ headquarters as well as the town Liam grew up in with the theme ‘Pints, Pasties, Players’, tying all three parties together and forming an eye-catching wall mural. The slogan ‘Cornish to the Core!’ is also featured, adding to the visual celebration of good Cornish products.

Representatives from Proper Cornish, St Austell Brewery, GCCC and Liam Norwell himself were on hand to launch the café earlier this month. It has been welcomed by visitors so far, with projected sales of 2,000 pasties alone for 2016. This is set to increase next year with a number of international matches including England v Ireland and England v West Indies to be hosted at the grounds.

Following its annual sponsorship of Norwell, Proper Cornish was approached by the club’s catering team, Centerplate, to put its stamp on the new café and museum area and the pasty maker saw an opportunity to work with fellow Cornish sponsor St Austell Brewery.

Mark Muncey, Marketing Director of Proper Cornish, said: “We are excited to be linking up with St Austell Brewery and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club to give supporters the true taste of Cornwall. Our principle sponsorship of Liam Norwell has captured the hearts of the supporters and the wider public. Powering Liam with our pasties has helped deliver his maiden first class century and kept the supporters full of great Cornish produce. We hope they enjoy the new café surroundings and three of Cornwall’s great exports – pasties, pints and Liam.”

Marc Bishop, Trade Marketing Manager at St Austell Brewery, said: “We are delighted to be working with our fellow Cornish company Proper Cornish for the benefit of Gloucestershire County Cricket club and their supporters. We think the new bar looks amazing and look forward to seeing it full of hungry and thirsty fans through the summer.”

Emily Salvidge, Head of Marketing & Commercial at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, added: “There is a perfect fit between Proper Cornish and Gloucestershire player Liam Norwell. Liam started his cricket career in Cornwall and still has close ties in the area. Also, his nickname within team is Pasty!”
