Pre-season intensifies thanks to local boxing club

It's not every day you see Chris Dent and George Hankins wearing boxing gloves, but with pre-season training well underway, the team made a recent visit to a local boxing club.

As part of the pre-season training schedule organised by GCCC Strength and Conditioning coach Bob Smith, the club teamed up with Empire Fighting Chance, based in Easton, to offer the players a chance to train under the watchful eye of professional boxer, Harvey Hemsley.

After a tour of the the club, which boasts local boxing champion Lee Haskins as one of it's regulars, the team were put through their paces with a mix of light sparring, pad work and skipping.

David Payne said "Empire Boxing Club is an amazing place and it was an eye opening experience to hear the story they have to tell. "

Payne added "We have have really enjoyed being out of our comfort zones in pre-season so far, and since our visit to Empire, a few of the guys now think they are the next Anthony Joshua!"

Martin Bisp, CEO and founder of Empire Fighting Chance said "It's great to have the boys at the club training. There is no better way to train, and if they continue with a similar workout routine, they will be fitter than ever before. "
