Alex Smashes Ton In Another Friendly Win
24 March 2014
Alex Gidman blasted an unbeaten 150 as Gloucestershire thrashed Worcestershire by seven wickets in a 50-over pre-season friendly at Kidderminster.
It was another impressive one-day performance from the team following the three-wicket home victory over Glamorgan last week.
Worcestershire were bowled out for 255 in the final over of their innings, Will Gidman taking three of the wickets.
But it was brother Alex who proved the match-winner with a powerful assault on the home bowlers that brought victory with more than ten overs to spare.
Alex said: "It's always good to get a few runs under your belt in pre-season, so I'm very happy to have played so well.
"It was another encouraging display by the team. We have batted well in both our 50-over friendlies, but still feel there is more to come.
"Will got among the wickets again and our spinners Tom Smith and Chris Dent bowled well. As a unit the bowlers all performed.
"Obviously, the NatWest T20 Blast competition comes first, but we are really looking forward to the Royal London One-Day Cup later in the season."
Both teams had to contend with cold, blustery conditions.
Alex said: "It was probably slightly warmer for us fielding first, but let's say it was pretty fresh all through the game."
The sides meet again for a three-day friendly at the Bristol County Ground, starting on Wednesday. Play will start at 11.00 am on each day.
