Pre-Match Music Acts | England v Sri Lanka
3 July 2021
The Club are pleased to announce that two more locally based music acts will be performing on our new stage prior to the start of play.
A growing relationship with BIMM Bristol has allowed us to showcase Bristol’s best new up-and-coming artists. Different acts have been performing at all T20 matches in Bristol this year. Tomorrow's ODi between England and India will see the following acts perform:
Gabriel Templar
Gabriel Templar is a 20-year-old artist known for writing incredibly catchy and memorable songs according to big names such as Michael Eavis, the founder of Glastonbury Festival where Gabriel has performed six times already.
Gabriel creates his own unique sound by combining The Beatles incredibly catchy melody lines with Eminem’s fast and clever lyrical pace. His wide range of inspiration allows him and his band to explore new sounds when recording and performing.
He is yet to release his debut album but has amassed over 700 thousand followers on social media where he promotes his music.
James Humphrys
James Humphrys is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Guildford. Taking influences from bands like Foals, Parcels, Bombay Bicycle Club, Jungle and Franc Moody, James’s music is a unique concoction of upbeat funk-filled dream pop with often surprisingly melancholic lyrics.
James has hit the ground running in 2021 with a music video for his single ‘Three Weeks’ starring Netflix’s Jessie Mei Li. He has just released two new singles, 'Let It Out, Keep It In' and 'Eyes Up Front' and with a catalogue of more unreleased music up his sleeve.
James has played venues ranging from Bristol’s Thekla to the Royal Albert Hall, selling out his headline show at Bristol’s Crofter’s Rights and supporting bands including San Cisco, Shortstraw and Cassia. In addition to multiple sets with London's Sofar Sounds, James has also joined the line-up at Glastonbury Festival, 2000 Trees, Bristol Harbour Side Festival and Dot to Dot Festival.
Freddie Lewis
Freddie Lewis brings authentic storytelling to his gentle, imagery-filled, soulful songs. He talks openly of his experiences as a queer man and brings influence from his favourite poets and UK indie soul to his unique brand of bedroom-pop. He combines thoughtful and playful lyricism with catchy hook writing to tell stories with vulnerability, emotion, and honesty.
Citing Arlo Parks and Frank O’Hara as his biggest influences, Freddie places the emphasis on his words, recounting the hard times with an eye for the everyday revelations and an optimistic undertone throughout. Freddie uses his music to explore what it means to be exactly himself; he details his experiences with an honesty often reserved for 3am conversation, inviting listeners into his stories with open arms and unreserved emotion.
Recalling his journey as a queer man, as wellas his unique perspectives on love, loss and everything in between, his thoughtful and playful lyricism define his distinctive sound. Freddie Lewis is an artist who regards his writing as the greatest gift he can give himself, he is grateful for the opportunity to write and share his songs and brings his gentle positivity to the darkest of subject matters.
