Player blog: Gilmour on pre-season training and trip to India

9 March 2017

Hello everyone, I hope you have wintered well and are looking forward to the season as much as I am.

This winter I stayed at home for the first time in 3 years and it was a nice change. Although this meant it would be the first time doing the track sessions, which is definitely as hard as everyone said it would be, it was still enjoyable and everyone did it without a complaint.

At the end of January I was lucky enough to go to India for three weeks. We arrived on the 30th and as we stepped out of the airport, the heat just hit you. We arrived at our hotel at about 11:30 am, had some lunch and then had a quick nap. After that we didn't waste anytime in getting out and putting the pads on as we went for a two hour net session.

For the first 10 days of the trip, I was out there with Jordan Garrett, Dom Hooper and Steve Cashmore as our coach. We settled quickly into a daily routine of breakfast, a morning hit for about two and half hours, lunch, then another session in the afternoon before calling it a day.

The four of us were joined by Owen Dawkins and a few more Academy lads for the last 10 days of the trip. Our routine didn't change much and it's safe to say I had hit a lot of balls by the time the trip came to an end!

For the last two weeks we have been outdoors in the marquee. This has been good for everyone to get a run outside before the season gets into full flow.

I hope to see all of you over the summer!

Cheers

Brandon
