Player blog: Catching up with Coey in Australia
19 January 2016
Hello all back home. I hope everyone has had a brilliant Christmas and New Year.
I'm back in Adelaide again this winter playing for the same team (East Torrens CC) in the South Australian Cricket Association.
I have funded myself this year as I am not part of the Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy this year although I have been in training a few times with the lads. A couple of our boys are out here as well - Brandon Gilmore and George Hankins. I'm sure they are being put through their paces this winter!! I know how tough it can be all too well - including the infamous 'Snakepit'.
It has been very nice to get back into some cricket and into training again as I had that long lay off at the end of the season, injuries seeing me miss around three months.
As you can imagine I have been a bit rusty and have struggled getting back into my rhythm of batting again but its all starting to come together now. I'm looking forward to getting home and getting a good pre-season under my belt.
I have had an amazing winter off the field too, including a trip to South Africa with my partner over Christmas and New Year. This meant meeting the extended family - very serious and nerve racking I know!!
We packed so much into our 16 day trip. This included, climbing Table Mountain on a 40C day. This was extremely challenging but we were rewarded with some incredible views of Cape Town from the summit.
We got to see a lot of wildlife while we were there. We rode some elephants, played with lion cubs (not so much cubs, but rather big) they had a nice chew on my thigh and scratch on my leg! We also went to the Monkey Sanctuary and Crocodile Park. had a day in Sun City and went on a safari.
I'm back home in three weeks and extremely excited to get cracking with the new season, meet the new lads and continue with our growth as a squad. It's exciting times ahead!
See you guys through the season.
