Payne Battling Ankle Problem
28 February 2014
David Payne is hopeful of being fit for the start of the season after returning early from his winter in Australia.
The left-arm seamer escaped to the sun to hone his skills by spending time at the Darren Lehmann Academy in Adelaide and has come back with an ankle injury.
Gloucestershire’s Director of Cricket John Bracewell said: “We have had David checked out and he has had an injection in the ankle.
“Now we need to let it settle down and see how quickly he progresses when starting to train again.
“We brought him home a month early as a precautionary exercise, which is always an option when we allow our players to go overseas.
“Because of that and the treatment he is receiving, we are optimistic he will be fit for our opening games.”
