Pace bowler Matt Taylor signs new two-year deal at Glos
8 August 2024
Pace bowler Matt Taylor has signed a new two-year contract at Gloucestershire Cricket through to 2026.
The new deal for Taylor comes following an impressive T20 Vitality Blast campaign for the 30-year-old. In 13 South Group appearances this season Taylor took 23 wickets, the fifth most of any bowler across the whole tournament. It was in fact in this year’s Vitality Blast that Taylor achieved career-best T20 bowling figures, a magnificent 4/22 against Essex Eagles at the Seat Unique Stadium in May.
A product of the Gloucestershire Cricket Academy, Taylor made his first appearance for Gloucestershire as a 17-year-old in a List-A match in 2011, and has been a mainstay in Gloucestershire’s bowling unit ever since.
The younger brother of the Club’s white ball captain, Jack, Matt Taylor plays in all formats for Gloucestershire and in his 13-year career with the Club so far, has accumulated 319 wickets in red and white ball cricket.
Speaking of his excitement at signing a new deal at Glos, Matt Taylor said: “I’m really excited to have extended my contract at this great club. I’m very grateful for the opportunities I have been given over the years and I want to give my all to try to repay that by hopefully contributing to us winning trophies in the near future.
"Our loyal fanbase always give us such amazing support and the whole team would like to give them something to celebrate.”
Having established himself in Gloucestershire’s red ball side in 2014, Taylor has gone on to make 81 First-Class appearances, taking 215 wickets. In T20 cricket, Taylor has taken a wicket-a-game in 68 appearances and in List A competitions, has taken 37 wickets from 39 appearances.
Mark Alleyne, Head Coach at Gloucestershire Cricket, added: “Matty Taylor’s extended commitment to the Club is a real tonic for all of us. Matt has been in terrific form for us particularly in the Vitality Blast, impacting so many games but never taking that for granted.
"Not only that, Matt is a real force of good in the changing room and we're all delighted to see him commit the next couple of years to Gloucestershire."
