One Day Cup Semi-Final Preview | Leicestershire vs Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire travel to Leicestershire on Tuesday 29th August in the Semi-Final of the Metro Bank One Day Cup. The Shire head to the Uptonsteel County Ground in scintillating form having won their last six 50-over matches including a dominant display against Lancashire in the Quarter-Final in Bristol on Friday.

Leicestershire are yet to play a knockout match in the competition having progressed straight to the semi-final stage as table-toppers in Group A.

The two sides will meet at 2pm on Tuesday to decide who progresses to the final at Trent Bridge. 


Team news

Dale Benkenstein selects an unchanged fifteen-player squad for Shire’s crucial knockout round match.

Centurion vs Lancashire Miles Hammond is inline to spearhead the in-form Glos batting order while Ireland international Harry Tector is once again included in the bolstered Shire squad.

Each of Hammond, Bracey, O Price, van Buuren and Jack Taylor have all scored centuries so far during the Metro Bank One Day Cup and each of them will be chomping at the bit to add to their tally for the tournament against Leicestershire.

Ben Charlesworth (knee) and Matt Taylor (toe) remain sidelined while Ajeet Singh Dale (thigh), Ben Wells (hamstring) and Marchant de Lange (quad) will not feature again this season.

Last time out

Gloucestershire breezed past a strong Lancashire on Friday side to book their place in the semi-final. Having won the toss and electing to bat first, Lancashire were bowled out for 177 by the Shire attack. David Payne, Anwar Ali, Paul van Meekeren and Ollie Price all finished with two wickets apiece as Lancashire only managed to bat for 44.3 overs.

Chasing 178 for victory Gloucestershire made sharp work of the challenege at hand and only needed 24.5 overs to reach their target. A magnificent maiden List A century from Miles Hammond guided Glos to the final four. His 109* came off 85 balls and was backed up by 39 from Ollie Price and 10* from Harry Tector is the final stages of the innings.


Our opponents

Leicestershire have been in impressive form themselves, winning seven out of eight group matches to finished in top spot in Group A. The Foxes only defeat in the tournament so far has come against local rivals Nottinghamshire and since then, Leicestershire have won five straight matches.

In their last outing vs Yorkshire, half-centuries from Peter Handscomb and Wiaan Mulder steered the hosts to a six-wicket win over Yorkshire.

Leicestershire were impressive with the ball, too, bowling Yorkshire out for 184. Chris Wright and Matt Salisbury finished with three wickets each as Leicestershire finished the group stages in style.
