One Day Cup Preview | Surrey v Gloucestershire
29 July 2024
Gloucestershire travel to the Oval to face Surrey in the Metro Bank One Day Cup on Tuesday in need of a win to get their 50-over campaign up and running.
Mark Thorburn’s side go into the match, Gloucestershire's 1,000th List A fixture, having lost the opening two matches of the tournament, first a 27-run defeat away at Glamorgan on Thursday and then on Sunday, a 63-run defeat at home against Essex.
While disappointed to have lost both matches so far, Gloucestershire will be pleased by the start to the tournament made by seamer Dom Goodman, who already has seven wickets to his name having taken four wickets against Essex and three against Glamorgan. His 4-32 against Essex represent career-best figures for the 23-year-old. Ajeet Singh Dale also impressed, scoring maiden List A half century in blistering speed during a brilliant tenth wicket stand, finishing with 63 off 34 balls.
Those results leave Gloucestershire in eighth place in the Group B table and will be targeting a win against Surrey, who are the only team below them in the table. The Londoners have been well-beaten in both of their opening fixtures against Yorkshire and Glamorgan, the latter of whom recorded a seven-wicket victory with 205 balls remaining at the Oval on Sunday.
