One Day Cup Preview | Gloucestershire vs Leicestershire
13 August 2024
Gloucestershire host the visit of Leicestershire in final Metro Bank One Day Cup group match with a quarter-final place on the line.
Both teams need to win the match at the Seat Unique Stadium on Wednesday in order to qualify for the knockout stages of the 50-over competition. Leicestershire currently occupy the all-important third place but if Gloucestershire beat the Foxes, Mark Thorburn’s side will leapfrog their rivals in the table.
Gloucestershire have won four of their last five One Day Cup matches to put themselves in contention for qualification with the most recent win coming against Notts Outlaws at Trent Bridge on Friday. Set 333 to win, Gloucestershire completed a terrific run-chase with 20 balls remaining largely thanks to opener, Miles Hammond, who scored a career-best 157 to spearhead Gloucestershire’s reply. Half centuries from Ollie Price and Cameron Bancroft made sure of the win to keep Shire in contention for a quarter-final place.
TEAM NEWS
Mark Thorburn selects a 13-man squad for the visit of Leicestershire that features a number of enforced changes.
Ollie Price, Ajeet Singh Dale and Zaman Akhter are all unavailable for selection due to their involvement with England Lions this week. Matt Taylor, Zafar Gohar, Luke Charlesworth, Tommy Boorman and Chris Dent are all unavailable for selection due to injury. More information on those injuries can be found here. Marchant de Lange and David Payne also remain unavailable for selection due to their involvement in the Hundred.
The 13-man squad does, however, include latest recruit Curtis Campher, who has been signed on a short-term deal to cover the match against Leicestershire and any One Day Cup knockout matches should Gloucestershire progress.
Tom Price also features in the matchday squad for the first time in a number of weeks as does Archie Bailey, who could be in-line for a first-team debut, and batter Joe Phillips.
